Councillors Visit – Bringing Communities Together

NEW

At Athena Healthcare Group we believe it’s important to link communities and businesses together. Therefore, we invited Lynne Thompson – Liberal Democrats, and Tony Brough – Conservative Party, to have a chat and look around Birkdale Tower Lodge. During their time here we asked Lynne Thompsom a few questions:

How can care homes and their residents get involved in local government and community events?

“By making sure community services and events are accessible. For example, promoting and supporting community events, encouraging residents to build social connections within the wider community rather than be centred on home-based activities. In addition, we want to bring the community in with open days.”

How can care homes and  residents be better advocate for their needs and show interest to local government?

“Where possible, they can ask for input from council services, share best practices and promote ideas for change.”

What are some of the most rewarding aspects of your job as a councillor?

“The most rewarding part about being a Councillor is helping constituents achieve better outcomes regardless of circumstances. Also, promoting and supporting community initiatives to encourage residents to work together.”

What are some of the upcoming projects or initiatives that you are most excited about?

“Working with a local church to reconfigure their community building so we can offer a more user-friendly space for faith and non-faith initiatives. This is so people can have a place to belong whatever their circumstances.

We are also seeking to attract a large retail store to regenerate an underused brownfield site in a deprived area.”

We want to thank both Lynne Thompson and Tony Brough for coming, we hope you see you again soon!
