Vascular dementia is caused by a decrease in blood flow to the brain, which can be the result of a stroke. Moreover, symptoms include difficulty with decision-making, problems with vision, and problems with walking or balance.

Lewy Body Dementia

This type of dementia is caused by the buildup of abnormal protein deposits, known as Lewy bodies, in the brain. Additionally, symptoms include hallucinations, Parkinson’s-like tremors, and changes in mood and behaviour.

Frontotemporal Dementia

Symptoms include changes in personality and behaviour, difficulty with language, and a decline in overall cognitive function.

Mixed dementia

This type of dementia is a combination of two or more of the other types of dementia. Symptoms can vary depending on which types of dementia are present.

Understanding the different types of dementia is important for individuals who may be experiencing symptoms, and also for their family members. With this knowledge, they can better understand the causes of their symptoms and develop a plan for managing the condition.
