Physical activity is an important part of maintaining health and well-being, especially for our lovely residents living in our care homes. At Athena Healthcare Group, we’ve found that providing a variety of physical activities can be both fun and beneficial for our residents. Here are some of the most popular physical activities that our residents love:
Chair Exercises
Chair exercises are a great way to get our residents moving, even if they have limited mobility. These exercises are done while sitting in a chair and can include movements such as arm circles, leg lifts, and toe taps. We often incorporate music into our chair exercises to make them more enjoyable!
Outdoor Walks
Walking is a low-impact exercise that can be done indoors or outdoors. At our care homes, we organise outdoor walks to the local community, to grab a coffee or to go and see some nature! We have found that outdoor walks are a great way to encourage residents to get moving and explore their surroundings.
Boogying (Dancing!)
Dancing is a fun way to get residents moving and socialising with each other. We’ve found that boogying is a great way to promote physical activity while also improving mood and social connections! See below a video of our residents at Birkdale Tower Lodge having a boogie with one another!
Conclusion
In our care homes, we believe that physical activity is an important part of maintaining health and well-being for our residents. By offering a variety of physical activities, we hope to promote a healthy and active lifestyle for our residents.
