International Women’s Day

NEW

On Monday 8th March, we celebrated International Women’s Day across all our Lodges.

International Women’s Day is a globally recognised day dedicated to celebrating women’s achievements whilst raising awareness about equality and empowerment. In celebration, our residents came together to share their personal stories, discuss their occupations and what advice they would give to younger generations.

Many residents enjoyed catching up over a delicious afternoon tea whilst listening to music from their favourite female artists. They also wrote down all their proudest achievements what they’ve learned about inspirational women who have paved the way over the years.

To get to know each other even better, residents interviewed one another in person and over the phone. The ladies of Lighthouse Lodge in New Brighton enjoyed a video call with those living at Birkdale Tower Lodge, Southport. They sharing their journeys and what empowers them, leading to many new friendships forming across the Mersey.

There was also a special interview between one of our Resident Ambassadors and Cllr June Burns, Mayor of Sefton. They spoke about their experiences and some of the challenges the Mayor has faced during her career in a male-dominated environment. It was an honor and privilege to discuss such poignant topics with our local dignitary. As it turns out, both our Resident Ambassador and the Mayor have lots in common!

“Persevere, whatever it is that you want to do, whether it’s in a male-dominated role or not, stick at it, know what you want to do and keep going for it.”

Cllr June Burns

Overall, it was a wonderful and empowering day all around with new friendships blossoming and a better understanding of not only each other but prominent female figures throughout history.
