Athena mark World Alzheimer’s Day

The North West lodges of Athena Healthcare Group joined forces on Friday 21st September to mark World Alzheimer’s Day.

Residents from Abbey Wood Lodge, Hesketh Park Lodge, Parklands Lodge and Woodlands Lodge descended on Southport’s Ramada Plaza Hotel for an afternoon of reminiscence and of course, a delicious lunch.

Led by supporters of Athena Healthcare Group, ex-Everton players Ian Snodin and Graham Stuart, residents enjoyed conversations about how various sports have changed over time with football the hot topic of the afternoon.

World Alzheimer’s Day falls on the 21st September each year and is part of a month-long campaign dedicated to raising awareness and challenging the stigma that surrounds dementia.

Each of Athena Healthcare Group’s lodges, including Willow Park Lodge in Dover, have purpose build facilities to provide a safe and responsive environment for its residents living with conditions such as Alzheimer’s or vascular dementia.

“From day one, we have been impressed with the very people-centred approach from all staff. Their level of care for my wife has been second to none. I would have no hesitation in recommending Abbey Wood. It has given me the peace of mind I needed in relinquishing my caring for my wife, a hard thing to do.”
